This is our public blog, we will update daily with new information for the exposition.
Hey Hey Hey! Today we are working on expo again. It's just Riham, Judy and minus our webmaster Kristen and our teacher Ms. Ebmeyer who both have been out sick for two days! :( No worries because we've got it all under control. Today we were able to emailing several of our potential advisors, hopefully we get positive replies soon. We're so excited! Along with gathering advisors we are finally putting up the front page of our website and making plans for our proposal. Back to work!

Hey guys, so we're working on our protocol for the procedure of our experiment and planning to do the experiment on Friday or Saturday. One of the teachers here at Aqua actually showed us some hair proteins under a scanning electron microscope. We were hoping to see the structure of the proteins but apparently we need a TEM- transmission electron microscope for that. So we're just going to focus on the protein albumin for now. Our mini-expo is next Thursday, scrunch time!
Judy, Blogging out ✌ Hey everyone! How's it going? It's only 12:30 AM here and I'm finishing up the PowerPoint we're going to use to present tomorrow. Mini-Expo is less than a month away and we don't even have anything on our front page!
Needless to say, I may be freaking out just a tad. But now we have our PowerPoint that we can add at least. And after this we work on our initial experiments, working on the mini-documentary and getting our advisory team together. Speaking of advisory team, on Tuesday we met one of Mrs. Ebmeyer's former students, Dionna Williams. She's a PhD student working with the HIV virus and how it crosses the blood brain barrier - she's also, as Mrs. Ebmeyer puts it, a "protein specialist". She helped us figure out which proteins we should test in addition to albumin from egg whites - which was one of the main problems we were struggling with. Anyway, it's late and I'm getting some sleep! We have a big presentation tomorrow and I'm going to try to learn my slides well enough that I won't have to use my note-cards too much. Wish me luck! -Kris “By magic numbers and persuasive sound.” Hey, Hey, Hey! Today we're on fire. We brought our thinking caps and the ideas are flowing. Our webmaster Kristen came up with a great idea about possibly getting an app for our project. We decided against our previous idea of making a headphone buffer and Judy suggested making a small sound meter that can attach to an mp3 player or smart phone. The meter, combined with the app, will people to be more aware of possible damage - so they can turn the music down. Riham came up with a great brand name (ICON), and Kristen is researching a design for our experiment. We are also compacting all our research into our proposal. That's it for today! Time to go back to work...
Mischief Managed! -Debbie "One of the greatest sounds of them all - and to me it is a We are currently in the process of distributing surveys for students in our school. We think it is productive to poll our fellow peers on their headphone use in order to obtain statistics of the intensity and duration of the music they listen to. Hopefully we can set up interviews with some of the students and post the videos on the website.
Peace! -Riham Well, yesterday was exactly one month away from the mini-expo here at Aquaculture. To decide which group in our class gets to travel to Hartford and compete, teachers here, and maybe some other scientists, will score all the projects and decide our fate.
So it's crunch time! In the next month we'll have our team of advisors (The Producers), our basic lab tests will be complete and we'll have started working on our project. Wish Us Luck! -Kristen That white stuff down at the bottom is the DNA, and attached is a string, therefore making a DNA necklace |
